Food Access New Brunswick. Event 12-11-10

Postby Morris Kafka » Tue Nov 09, 2010 3:06 pm

Please consider joining us on Saturday, December 11 to discuss the importance – and challenges – of making sure that everyone in New Brunswick has access to healthy food. Details below and attached.

Event: An open community forum to examine the challenges
of accessing quality and nutritious food choices
Date: Saturday, December 11, 2010
9:00am – 3:30pm
Location: New Brunswick High School
1125 Livingston Ave.
New Brunswick, NJ 08901
You are invited to a one-day forum, Learn, Grow, Share: Building a Stronger Nutrition and Wellness Partnership in New Brunswick, that will examine the challenge of food security on families living in New Brunswick.
In Central New Jersey and across the nation, the number of people without the ability to acquire nutritious foods is growing. More than 10% of New Jersey’s population is considered to be food insecure and emergency food pantries continue to see an increase in the number of people coming for food assistance. The forum will provide an important opportunity for anyone interested in local standards of nutrition to evaluate the current situation and exchange ideas and insights for improvement.
The forum will include nationally recognized speakers who will share their expertise working in communities to increase the availability and quality of nutritious food. Topics will be examined from several perspectives—farm to kitchen, community awareness, and public policy. Panel discussions and working sessions will be led by facilitators with strong and successful records in each category and will provide opportunities to share and exchange information and contribute to future initiatives. The ultimate goal of the program is to forge community alliances to work together to enhance food security in New Brunswick in the long term.
Your attendance at this free event will contribute to future direction. As part of the process, please go to to complete the following survey with your RSVP.
